Winston-Salem, North Carolina is a city with many art events and musical performances. The area is the home of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, Salem College, the North Carolina School of the Arts and Forsyth Technical College and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.
The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art features a unique series of cascading galleries with contemporary American art . A 300 seat auditorium is also on site that offers contemporary music, drama, film, and dance, as well as lectures and symposia on contemporary art issues.
The Reynolda House, Museum of American Art, traces a thread of American Art history from the year 1775 to the present day. Ranging from a portrait by the South's premier Colonial artist and works from the Hudson River School, to examples of Modernism by Georgia O'Keeffe and others, the collection covers a wide and varied range of artistic styles. In addition, there are exhibits that explore historical costumes and decorative arts. The museum is located in a 1912 American country home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains its original furnishings.
