You can stroll around the old town of Salem for free or buy a ticket that gives you access to artisans in period garments who specialize in everything from bakeries to blacksmiths, quilts to pottery. Buy something from Bookmarks and support the Salem Public Library and the North Carolina Museum of Natural History.
The owners of the above-mentioned sweet potatoes and the other ones mentioned below are all women - companies owned by women. BB & T was based in Winston-Salem until it merged with SunTrust Banks in December 2019. The combined company's corporate headquarters has been moved to Charlotte and will be located at Wells Fargo, which acquired Wachovia Corporation in December 2008. Wacovias Corporation was based in Salem, Texas, before merging into First Union Corporation in September 2001.
The Winston-Salem area has more than 1,000 women in work, the second-highest percentage of female workers in North Carolina after Charlotte.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is the largest employer in Winston-Salem, and medical research is one of the fastest growing local industries in North Carolina. It is also home to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the state's second-largest medical school after UNC - Chapel Hill. According to data from the state Department of Education, there are also more than 1,000 jobs in education, health, education and health care.

Sitting in the taproom of the downtown foothill brewery is one of my favorite weekend pursuits in Winston-Salem at this time of year, especially when the season is just running. Although there is a lot to do, June, July and August remain some of the busiest months to spend time in and around Winston-Salem. When we looked around our list of our favorite weekend activities in Churchill County, we realized that it really is a city for everyone. It is also a great place to stay, which is why we think it is the perfect place for a weekend getaway to North Carolina's capital.
Winston-Salem has two main arteries, the West End and the East End, as well as a number of smaller streets and neighbourhoods. The main thoroughfare, the West End, is criss-crossed with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars and restaurants leading into downtown Winston-Salem.
In Winston-Salem, the predominant North-South highway, US-52, running parallel to NC-40, was the main east-west route through the city until 1993, when a bypass of I-40 was built. US 421 was the original route for I / 40 and a major route for the North Carolina State Highway System. It is signposted to the north and runs through the centre of the city, but is only a short distance south of the West End and the main thoroughfare of the East End.
The I-74, which was once US 311, connects Winston-Salem to High Point via I-75, US-52 and US-421. Buses depart from the Winston Salem Transportation Center and stop at several locations in the city as they travel to and from High Point.
Get into the holiday spirit by driving the 1.3 miles of magic lights to Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh. You will be able to see the lights of the North Carolina State Capitol, the city of Raleigh and the Raleigh-Chapel Hill subway station. A light show in downtown Raleigh where you can follow the traffic signs to Raleigh United Methodist Church, Winston - Salem Civic Center and other locations along the way.
If you want to spend a nice getaway in Winston-Salem, there are two other options, but we would love to know your favorite. We know that there are many more parks and open spaces in the city of Raleigh that we can enjoy, and we know that you are similar to us.

Back in downtown Winston - Salem, Krankies Coffee is a great place to start the day with a cup of coffee and a visit to one of our favorite coffee shops. You can also hang out with a visit to the large breweries in Winston Salem while visiting some of their local breweries in the area.
